#39 [random] R.I.P Hockey Night in Canada.

Random thought:

(... theme song anyway.)

-

I can't believe CBC let you go. You were the pinnacle of my generation; hearing that theme music I KNEW it was Hockey Night in Canada. You were part of my dads generation, my grandfathers generation, part of the lives of everyone I know and knew growing up! I wonder with the over commercialization of the NHL now what the new theme song will be? Knowing Canadas luck probably something with
viagra.

Lots and lots of viagra. Damn.

I promise I'll stop neglecting you blog.
I just came back from a weekend of camping. It was nice.

But I'm still too lazy to really write about it or finish one of the drafts I had started.

Yeah, TSN are bastards for doing that. I like how on their site they published a story about how they ".. saved the legacy" of the song for the last 40 years by buying it from CBC. They're pretty pathetic. Oh well.

I just hope they don't use Stompin' Tom as a substitute.

1968! CBC owned the exclusive rights to the song and I guess no one outside of Canada would understand wtf I was talking about, but every Saturday for hockey night in Canada they would play it as the intro to the games. It's never changed, it's always been on CBC and it's always been that same song (ish.. that's a playoff version, they're removing a lot of the still-copyrighted by CBC ones on YouTube so it was hard to find). TSN bought the exclusive rights a few days ago for 3 million, CBC only was willing to pay 1.5 million or something. Basically now it'll be on TSN every hockey game & during some of the 2010 olympics I think. For the first time in over 40 years it won't be the intro to our hockey nights in Canada everyone in my generation and generations that predate mine by over 40 years have grown up listening to. ;D

The song was just symbolic, that's all. TSN kind of took the little brother all of us had on Saturdya and shot him in the head on this one. Everyone in Canada has heard that song every Saturday when they were either out with friends, watching the playoffs or just sitting at home and decided to watch the game.

It's even worse since they want to make this the new hockey night in Canada song:
